Case Study: Turnkey Carbonated Soft Drink & Sparkling Water Line in Casablanca, Morocco

North Africa is one of the most promising growth regions for carbonated beverages, driven by a young population, a hot climate and rapidly expanding modern retail. Morocco sits at the heart of this trend, and when a beverage entrepreneur in Casablanca set out to launch a local soft-drink and sparkling-water brand, they needed far more than a filling machine. They needed a complete, integrated production line that could handle everything from raw water treatment to finished, labelled bottles. Our engineering team designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a full turnkey carbonated beverage line rated at 15,000 bottles per hour, tailored to Morocco’s utilities, climate and market expectations.

This project shows how a carefully engineered turnkey line lets a new entrant compete against established multinational brands from day one — by matching them on product quality, fill consistency and packaging appeal, while keeping production costs firmly under local control.

Project Background

The client aimed to produce a portfolio of drinks: cola, citrus and fruit-flavoured sodas, plus a premium sparkling water line for the growing health-conscious segment. They faced the classic challenges of a market newcomer — the need for consistent carbonation, stable fill volumes in a hot climate, attractive packaging, and a cost base low enough to compete on shelf price. Buying finished product or importing was never going to deliver the margins required, so local production was the strategic choice.

Casablanca’s warm climate and variable municipal water quality shaped the design significantly. Carbonation retention becomes harder as temperature rises, and inconsistent source water can ruin both taste and equipment longevity. The line therefore had to combine strong water treatment with a carbonation and filling system optimised for warm-ambient operation.

Line Configuration

We delivered a complete, integrated process flow engineered around the client’s product range and target output:

  • Water treatment: multi-media filtration, activated carbon, softening, two-stage reverse osmosis (RO) and UV sterilisation for a clean, neutral base water
  • Syrup room: sugar dissolving, filtration and batching tanks for consistent, repeatable recipes across multiple flavours
  • CO2 carbonation: a chilled carbonation system with precise control from 3.0 to 4.5 volumes for both sodas and sparkling water
  • Filling: 3-in-1 rinsing, isobaric filling and capping monobloc engineered to minimise CO2 loss and foaming
  • PET production: on-site blow moulding to reduce bottle logistics cost and enable format flexibility
  • Packaging: labelling, date coding, shrink wrapping and case palletising for retail-ready output

Challenges Solved

The primary technical challenge was maintaining carbonation in a hot climate. We specified a chilled-water carbonation loop that cools the product before CO2 injection, combined with an isobaric filling valve design that equalises pressure and keeps carbonation losses minimal even when ambient temperatures climb above 30°C. This ensures the fizz consumers expect survives from the filler all the way to the shelf.

The second challenge was water quality. Casablanca’s municipal supply varies through the year, so the two-stage RO system with automatic monitoring guarantees a stable, neutral base water that lets the flavour recipes shine consistently. This also protects the carbonation and filling equipment from scaling and corrosion, extending service life.

The third challenge was grid stability. To protect the PLC and motors from voltage fluctuation common in the region, we integrated a stabilised control cabinet with protection relays, ensuring the line keeps running smoothly through minor power dips.

Results

After a two-week on-site commissioning and operator-training program, the plant reached its rated output with stable carbonation levels and fill-volume accuracy within tight tolerances. The client launched with three soda flavours and a sparkling-water SKU, all produced on the same flexible line. On-site bottle production gave them the agility to adjust formats and respond quickly to retailer demand, while the strong margins from local production funded rapid brand expansion.

Within its first season the brand secured listings in several modern-trade chains across Casablanca and Rabat — a milestone made possible by the consistent, multinational-grade product quality the turnkey line delivered.
