When a fast-growing beverage company in Nairobi decided to move from trading imported sodas to producing their own carbonated soft drinks and energy drinks, they needed a partner who could deliver a complete, reliable production line rather than a box of loose machines. Our team designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a full turnkey PET carbonated beverage line rated at 12,000 bottles per hour, tailored to the East African market and its power and water realities.
Project Background
The client targeted the mass-market cola, orange soda and energy drink segments across Kenya and neighbouring markets. Their priorities were consistent carbonation levels, stable fill volumes in hot ambient conditions, and equipment simple enough for a local team to operate after a short training period. Imported finished drinks carried high logistics costs, so local bottling offered a clear margin advantage.
Line Configuration
- Water treatment: multi-media filtration, activated carbon, softening and RO to guarantee stable syrup and beverage quality
- Syrup room: sugar dissolving, filtration and batching tanks for repeatable recipes
- CO2 mixer: precise carbonation control from 2.5 to 4.5 volumes for both soda and energy drinks
- Filling: 3-in-1 rinsing, isobaric filling and capping monobloc for stable pressurised fills
- Packaging: date coding, labelling, film shrink wrapping and case palletising
Challenges Solved
Nairobi’s warm climate makes carbonation retention difficult. We specified a chilled-water carbonation loop and an isobaric filling valve design that keeps CO2 losses minimal even at 28-32°C ambient. Voltage fluctuation was addressed with a stabilised control cabinet and protection relays, protecting motors and PLC during grid dips.
Results
After a 10-day on-site commissioning and operator training program, the plant reached rated output with stable carbonation and less than 0.3% giveaway on fill volume. The client has since added a second flavour SKU using the same line, demonstrating the flexibility of the turnkey design.
