Case Study: Turnkey 5-Gallon Barreled & Bottled Water Line in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Central Asia’s growing demand for safe packaged drinking water makes it one of the most active markets for turnkey water lines. A distributor in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan asked us to supply a dual-format plant: a 5-gallon (18.9L) barrel line for the home-and-office delivery segment and a small-bottle PET line for retail.

Project Background

The client already had a distribution network for bottled water but relied on purchased product. Producing in-house required reliable water treatment for the local source water, plus two filling formats sharing one treatment backbone to control capital cost.

Line Configuration

  • Water treatment: multi-media and carbon filtration, softening, two-stage RO and UV/ozone sterilisation
  • 5-gallon line: external and internal barrel washing, filling and capping at 300 barrels per hour
  • PET line: 3-in-1 rinsing-filling-capping monobloc at 6,000 BPH for 350ml-1.5L bottles
  • Blow moulding for PET preforms on site to reduce bottle logistics cost
  • Labelling, date coding and shrink packaging

Challenges Solved

Source water hardness required a robust softening and RO stage to protect membranes and guarantee taste. For the barrel line, a thorough multi-stage wash with sterilisation ensured returnable barrels met hygiene standards for repeated reuse — a critical point for the HOD (home-and-office delivery) model.

Results

The plant now supplies both the reusable 5-gallon segment and retail PET bottles from a single treatment system, maximising the client’s return on investment. Commissioning and training were completed on schedule, and the client’s local team runs the line independently.
